Welcome to Troop 859′s Web Site! Based in the Palisades District within the Blue Grass Council, Troop 859 is chartered by Trinity Hill United Methodist Church located in Lexington, Kentucky.

Whether you are a member of our Troop or a Scout or Scouter from around the country, we welcome you to browse our pages. We’ve tried to put together a good resource for those who are involved in our Troop and in Boy Scouting in general.

Court of Honor

September 7th (next meeting: COURT OF HONOR
The Court of Honor is always a special occasion in the life of a Troop. We will have a “formal” family Court of Honor next week. All Scouts and families are invited to attend this big event. Dessert will be served after the ceremony. Scouts should be in Class A uniforms. Please let Tom know if you cannot attend this event.

Here’s our schedule for the remaining of the year:

September 10-11 - Fall Ordeal – McKee

September 24 – 26 Rails & Trails – Little Miami Valley Rail Trails

October 1 – 3 OA Fall Fellowship (McKee) for OA Members

October 15 – 17 Centennial Scout World – Kentucky celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Scouting.

November 5 – 7 Webelos Woods

December 4th – OA Banquet at McKee

December 10th – Troop Planning Meeting and Lock-in – CMS

We are going to be calling on all parents and leaders to help plan these trips. We need two-deep adult leadership and drivers to each weekend event.

BSA Membership Fees due $15 per Scout ($30 for OA members If you are not up-to-date on dues, etc. Please check with Mike Coyle.

2010 Blue Grass Council University Of Scouting

The Training Team of the Blue Grass Council is proud to present the 6th University of Scouting. This supplemental training for all adult leaders will offer fun, learning, and fellowship for all who attend. The University of Scouting will cover all phases of adult leader supplemental training. There will be courses for Boy Scout Leaders, interested parents and adults.

Sailing Trip

Troop 859 had a great weekend sailing on the new sailboats at Camp Roy C Manchester on Kentucky Lake. Thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Shawnee Trails Council, especially Mark Ashburn who spent all weekend with us on the lake, we had a great time and cannot wait to go back. Thank you!

Imagine a Scout Jamboree wherethe WHOLE WORLD COMES!!! Thereis nothing else like a World Jamboreein all of Scouting’s experiences. Onceevery four years Scouts and Venturersfrom every country in the world with aScouting program gather to celebratetogether as only Scouts can. You’ll haveonly one opportunity to attend a WorldJamboree as a Scout or Venturer, don’tlet this opportunity pass you by.You’ll live in a sub-camp setting. Scouts and Venturers born between July 25, 1993, and July 27, 1997 may take part. Between 14 and 17 years old by July 27, 2011. Participants will need a valid US passport! The cost of the trip is $3,525 and this will cover all expenses including airfare outside of the United States. There is also a $10 nonrefundable registration fee due at the time of registration. You are responsible for paying for airfare to and from the Gateway City, point of departure and return in the US. (From your home to the Gateway City before Jamboree and then from the Gateway City to your home after Jamboree). This is not included so that you may use frequent flyer miles or other discounts with various airlines. Our Gateway City has not yet been assigned but you will be notified when it is. Each Area in the Southern Region currently has a troop allocated. Sequoyah Council’s Area includes Councils in East and Middle Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama. Stan Okrasinski (Kingsport) is the unit leader for this troop. Space is limited so register sooner rather than later!

Fall Ordeal

Kawida Lodge is hosting a Fall Ordeal for the induction of new members and the conversion of Ordeal members to Brotherhood on September 10-12 at McKee. Two members will go through the Vigil Ceremony, too. It will be a great weekend for all our Brothers in the Order. Troop 859 has several Scouts and Leaders who will participate during the weekend. Good times ahead.

On October 15-17, 2010, we will be celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Scouting with a state-wide camporee. This will be one of the largest Scouting camporees in Kentucky’s history! There will be thousands of Scouts and leaders from 120 counties!

The Kentucky Camporee is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Scouts and leaders to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting. There will be a variety of activities for all ages. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the rich history of Scouting in Kentucky.
