2009 Lock In a Success!

Lots of fun was had at the annual Troop 859 Lock In and Planning Meeting this past Friday at Community Montessori School’s gym. If you weren’t able to join us you missed an exciting, albeit exhausting, time!
Asst. Scoutmaster Gabbard got everyone started by bringing several pizzas and the boys spent a couple of hours eating and voting on the activities and merit badges they are most interested in doing this upcoming Scout year.
From 10-midnight, everyone moved over to Southland Lanes for some bowling.
Once back to the gym, we had 3 projectors and multiple game systems for the boys to play some multi-player Halo and other games. After a little while it turned more into a free-for-all with the guys using the gym pads to build forts and other obstacles.
Most everyone was out by about 4am, but a few die-hards got into a heated game of Monopoly. Park Place and Boardwalk, each with a hotel, will get you every time!

Ocoee White Water Rafting Trip

Update on Ocoee trip from Scoutmaster Fielder:
Troop 859 had a GREAT whitewater trip to the Ocoee on Saturday the 19th!! Four Scouts earned the Whitewater Merit Badge using Funyaks (an inflatable kayak). The Funyaks are incredible – - – better than regular whitewater rafts lead by a guide. The staff at Ace Funyaks was incredible. Jeff West, a former Scout, carefully led the guys through every requirement and spent the day training the Scouts on whitewater via kayak. The Scouts had to individually chart their course on the river. They learned a lot about the river and kayaking. All the Scouts who participated want to go back and continue their whitewater adventures. What a GREAT day!!!

From June 7-13th several of the Troop spent the week at summer camp at Camp Crooked Creek, outside of Louisville, KY.
Just for fun, ask some of the guys to tell you about all the “yellow food”, how much fun they had swimming in the lake and Mitchell’s foot. :)
